Module Activities
This learning experience is a one day (8 hour) workshop for librarians, technology coordinators and teachers to provide them the necessary steps to begin to integrate digital information fluency into their school or district programs. Through shared stories and examples the participants will identify the barriers and obstacles that they may encounter. Opportunities and potential solutions to these barriers will be discussed and explored.

Topics addressed:
  • What are digital information fluency (DIF) skills?
  • What rationale can you use with administrators and teachers for teaching digital information fluency skills in middle schools and high schools?
  • Can a research model help implement DIF skills?
  • What impact does professional development have on DIF skills?
  • In which classes should specific information fluency skills be taught?
  • What assignments and instruction are effective in teaching information fluency skills?
  • How can you evaluate student learning?
  • How can you sustain the integration of digital information fluency skills into school programs?

By the end of the workshop, participants will have:
  • reviewed what is meant by digital information fluency skills.
  • created one-page letters to a building principal explaining how DIF skills can benefit the students, the faculty, and the administration.
  • created concept maps of how the various standards and technology plans interrelate.
  • shared stories and examples to identify the barriers and obstacles which may be encountered.
  • discussed opportunities and potential solutions to these barriers.
  • completed a Planning Guide to take next steps in their local situation.
