Techniques to locate links
Here are examples of similar Web 2.0 pages where it could be important to investigate links (in order to find credible information):
Use this technique to locate links to a page:
- The advanced operator link: retrieves all the pages in the database that contain a link to the page in question.
- For example, link:http://21cif.imsa.edu/ retrieves all the pages that link to the Information Fluency home page.
- Yahoo.com returns the greatest number and most diverse results for a link: query.
- Note: there must be no space after link: otherwise the query becomes a search for link AND whatever url was pasted in.
- If the page is not indexed in a search engine, look for an application that is able to analyze relationships in the site (for example, in twitter, find an application that visualizes relationships among tweeps)
Use this technique to locate links from a page:
- Different browers offer extensions(Add Ons) that make locating links easier. In Firefox, Web Developer > Information > Link Information retrieves the list of all the links on the page.
