I know I've created the bookmark, but I can't find it.  How can I find what I'm looking for in my bookmark system?

Even with a well-organized folder system, your bookmark list can quickly grow so large it becomes unwieldy.  To find a lost bookmark you can try several strategies.   Check the very bottom of your list.  New bookmarks are put at the end of your list by default.  You can then scroll up through your list looking for the name of the lost bookmark.

Click Bookmarks and select Manage Bookmarks.

This opens the main bookmark window.

You can now use the Control-f command to search by key word.

Netscape will open a new page with a list of matches.  You can click on any link to launch a new browser window.

What does it mean to Export a bookmark list?

Netscape will allow you to save or export a list of your bookmarks for use with another program or on another machine.  If you want to export your work bookmarks for use on a home machine you would follow these procedures.

  • Click Bookmarks and select Manage Bookmarks.
  • Click the Tools menu and choose Export.
  • A window will open prompting you to save a file named bookmarks.htm.
  • You can change this suggested file name if you want.
  • Save the file someplace easy to find such as the Desktop.
  • This file is in html format and can be read by many programs (including browsers).

What does it mean to Import a bookmark list?

Internet browsers have an 'import' feature that will incorporate bookmarks that have been exported in the proper format.  This feature allows you to manually transfer your bookmarks from machine to machine.

  • Click Bookmarks
    • select Manage Bookmarks.
  • Click Tools,
    • click Import.
  • Navigate to the saved Bookmark file and select it.
    • (You will have created this file using the export routine of another browser).
  • Click open, and your new bookmarks will be integrated into your browser.
